Recently, Shanghai Yangshan Customs discovered two suspected violations during routine inspections of two batches of importedsolarmodules (used). In one batch, the solar modules had broken glass panels and incomplete components. The other batch not only had similar issues but was also found to contain an undeclared used tire, raising suspicions of illegal dumping, storage, or disposal of solid waste.
After professional inspection and appraisal by specialized agencies, the solar modules and used tires in these two batches of goods were confirmed to be foreign garbage, with a total weight reaching approximately 20 tons. Currently, these non-compliant goods have been transferred to relevant departments for proper disposal.
Regarding this incident, customs authorities specifically reminded businesses and individuals that since January 1, 2021, China has completely banned the import of solid waste. Any unauthorized import of solid waste will be considered illegal. Enterprises or individuals attempting to import, dump, store, or dispose of foreign solid waste in any way will face strict legal consequences under the Law of the Peoples Republic of China on the Prevention and Control of Environmental Pollution by Solid Waste and other relevant regulations. Criminal acts will be prosecuted according to the law.
This seizure of foreign garbage once again warns all sectors of society that Chinas import policy on solid waste is strict, and any violations will be severely punished by law.
