Matter 1.2 update includes multiple new device types and functional expansions, including washing machines, refrigerators, dishwashers, indoor air conditioners, robotic vacuum cleaners, air quality sensors, air purifiers, smoke and carbon monoxide alarms, and fans. Additionally, Matter 1.2 has improved its core specifications by adding intermittent connection device monitoring and operational status clusters, as well as enhancing test harnesses, controller test cases, and further automation of scripts.

Maan Ghanma, Director of Smart Solutions for UL Solutions Consumer, Medical, and Information Technology Division, stated that UL Solutions will help technology manufacturers demonstrate their commitment to industry-wide collaboration and the interoperability benefits for users across new device types in Matter 1.2. As the IoT industry continues to develop unified standards, UL Solutions expanded capabilities will strengthen its ongoing support for IoT product manufacturers.
Jon Harros, Certification and Testing Director of the Connectivity Standards Alliance, pointed out that UL Solutions has been an important partner throughout the development and initial launch of Matter, providing expertise in testing connected smart devices. With the release of Matter 1.2, the demand for testing Matter devices has increased, and UL Solutions has expanded its Matter testing capabilities at its existing CSA-authorized laboratories.
