To better serve enterprises, improve market sales efficiency, and ensure product safety, the UK Department for Business and Trade (DBT) has updated the recognition of the CE mark as follows:
On August 1, 2023, the DBT officially decided to indefinitely extend the recognition of the CE mark for products sold in the UK market beyond the originally scheduled 2024 deadline.
Enterprises can now flexibly choose to use either the UKCA mark (UK Conformity Assessed) or the CE mark (EU Safety Certification) based on their needs.
The extension of recognition applies to 18 regulations under DBT jurisdiction, covering the following specific products:
1) Toys, fireworks, machinery, aerosols, elevators
2) Electromagnetic compatibility, measuring instruments, gas equipment, pressure equipment
3) Pressure equipment, measuring container cylinders, simple pressure vessels, outdoor equipment
4) Personal protective equipment (PPE), low-voltage electrical equipment, recreational boats, and personal watercraft
5) Non-automatic weighing instruments, equipment for potentially explosive atmospheres (ATEX)
While this extension provides convenience for post-pandemic recovery and businesses facing high inflation, companies should still note the following when selecting marks:
1) Verify whether their export products fall within the scope of CE mark extension recognition.
2) ForMedical Equipment, construction products, unmanned aircraft systems, railway products, and products regulated by the EU RoHS Directive, additional regulations must be followed to ensure compliance.
